GEEKASM

So, I am a total and complete airplane geek. Major. Like I would almost pass up sex to see an airshow. So...... the base I work on is having an airshow tomorrow. Cool, yes. But it gets better. I am a huge fan of the P-38 Lightning. I think it is just a great looking airplane. I am also a huge fan of the P-38 named Glacier Girl.

Well guess what is parked on our flight line! Ya. No shit.

I found that out this AM and first, almost had to change my britches from the enormous geekasm I had, and second, damn near ran outside to see it. Oh and by the way, as much as I like the P-38, this is the first time I've seen one close up. Sorta like meeting your favorite celeb.

Pictures do not bring justice. For an airplane that was built in 1940 something, that bird is in better shape than some of the F/A-18 Hornets built a few years ago. Awesome. If you've read the history of this plane then you'd understand why it's in such good shape. Right down to the dummy .50 cal rounds.

I might have to go back out and look some more.
